Card Text Back: Black River Canal Locks - This historic canal, built in 1851 at a cost per mile in excess of probably any other canal in the world, served the people of Upstate New York for nearly 70 years, winding its way up the lovely Boonville Gorge and thru the Black River Valley where it joined the Black River at Lyons Falls. The locks are still in good repair and are visited by thousands annually.
